Joe Fugate's HO Siskiyou Line Model Railroad

Let's follow a train around the layout ... page 7

We're running the Coos Bay Hauler East. This is an actual train we run during an op session. As we follow the train around the layout, you'll also get to see how the layout looked as of March 2003.

Gliding through Goshen

Gliding through GoshenThis is Goshen, just outside of Eugene. In the distance will be some fir covered slopes and in the foreground will be flat farmland typical of what you see in this part of the southern Willamette Valley.

We're actually looking at this scene from the "backdrop" side of the tracks. Below us is the Camas Mountain helix.

Pulling into Eugene yard

Pulling into Eugene yardWe get clearance from the Eugene yardmaster to enter Eugene yard (actually, we select an empty staging track) and our train rolls into the yard.

There are 5 active tracks in this staging area, with 4 more tracks planned but not yet installed. This double-ended staging yard does double duty as both Eugene and Medford. Since this yard connects both ends of the Siskiyou Line, it is possible to do continuous running during times that the layout is open for purely show purposes. Ordinarily, however, trains end their runs in this staging area and do not run through.

Below this end of the staging yard you can see the Camas Mountain helix.

End of the run

End of the runSo here we are, at long last in Eugene. Our trains pulls to a stop and it's been 11 hours on the fast clock (at 8-to-1, that's an actual 1 hour and 22 minutes ... a healthy duration for a single model train run on a layout).

We inform the dispatcher that we are in Eugene and turn in our track warrant. We go off duty and await another assignment!

I hope you have enjoyed your trip over my Siskiyou Line layout. These photos where taken using a digital camera under the actual low wattage layout lighting (no extra lighting was added), so these photos show how the layout really looks to the eye. The only way you could get closer to the real thing is to come for a visit!
