Joe Fugate's HO Siskiyou Line Model Railroad

Here's how I wire my track feeders for DCC.

Wiring DCC to be "short resistant"

Photo showing train block wiring - click to enlarge. The nicest part about doing the wiring as shown here is how "short resistant" it makes the layout.

The two main power busses in this photo are the blue and blue / black stripped wires.

The blue wire feeds the train block bus (the white wire with "main" written on it). The power feeder to this white wire comes from the blue wire through the SPST toggle switch and the 1156 automotive tail light bulb. All the rail feeders for one side of the track on the main in this train block come off the white wire, making the block "protected" by the 1156 bulb.

If an operator shorts the main in this train block, trains in this power district but in other train blocks keep running. The 1156 bulb comes on bright, becoming the new electrical load in the train block and preventing the power district from shutting down.
